Your meal photos, nutrition data, and personal health information are deeply private. Calorie AI is built with privacy as our foundation, not an afterthought. We believe your wellness journey should remain completely under your control.

How Your Data Works

📱 Local Processing First

Your meal photos and logs are processed directly on your iPhone using on-device AI. The data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose cloud features.

🤖 AI Nutrition Analysis

When you opt-in to AI nutrition analysis, only anonymized, sanitized data is sent to our AI service. Personal names, locations, and identifying details are automatically removed before processing.

🔒 Health Data Integration

When you enable Health Data access, we only read the data you explicitly grant permission for (steps, calories burned, distance). We never write to your Health data and don't store this information on our servers.

🔒 Data Encryption

All data stored on your device is encrypted using iOS keychain services. Any data transmitted for AI processing uses end-to-end encryption and is deleted immediately after processing.

Your Control

You can always:

  • • Delete all your meal logs and data at any time
  • • Export your data in plain text format
  • • Control AI nutrition analysis permissions
  • • Manage Health Data access in iOS Settings
  • • Use the app offline for basic logging
  • • Opt out of analytics and crash reporting

Third-Party Services

AI Processing & Privacy

When you use AI nutrition analysis features, we share your meal photos with OpenAI to analyze and estimate calories and nutritional content.

  • Image Sharing: Your meal photos are sent to OpenAI's API for calorie and nutrition analysis. This is necessary to provide the AI-powered nutrition insights.
  • OpenAI Data Policy: According to OpenAI's API Data Usage Policy, your images are not used for training or improving their models. Data is processed for your specific request and not retained for other purposes.
  • No Local Storage: We do not store your meal photos on our servers. Images are only sent to OpenAI when you actively use the AI analysis feature.
  • User Control: You can choose not to use AI features and still log meals manually. AI analysis is optional and requires your explicit action.
  • Data Retention: OpenAI does not retain your images after processing. Each analysis is a one-time request.
  • Privacy Standards: OpenAI complies with major privacy standards including SOC 2, GDPR, and ISO 27001.

Important: By using AI nutrition analysis, you consent to sharing your meal photos with OpenAI for calorie and nutrition estimation. You can disable AI features at any time in the app settings.

Analytics

We use privacy-focused analytics to understand app usage patterns and improve the experience. No personal content or identifiable information is included.

Data Retention

  • • Your meal logs and photos: Stored locally on your device until you delete them
  • • AI processing data: Deleted immediately after generating your nutrition insights
  • • Analytics data: Anonymized and retained for up to 2 years for app improvement
  • • Crash reports: Automatically deleted after 90 days
  • • Health data: Never stored on our servers, only accessed when needed

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, but given our privacy-first architecture:

  • • We have no access to your meal content or photos
  • • We cannot provide what we do not collect or store
  • • Any legal requests would be limited to basic usage analytics only
  • • Health data access is controlled entirely by iOS permissions
