Your mood, thoughts, and personal reflections are deeply private. Moodmate is built with privacy as our foundation, not an afterthought. We believe your emotional wellness journey should remain completely under your control.

What We Collect

How Your Mood Data Works

📱 Local Storage First

Your mood entries, context tags, and reflections are stored directly on your iPhone using iOS secure storage. The data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose cloud backup features.

🤖 AI Reflection Process

When you opt-in to AI reflections, only anonymized, sanitized mood summaries are sent to our AI service. Personal names, locations, and identifying details are automatically removed before processing.

🔒 Data Encryption

All data stored on your device is encrypted using iOS keychain services. Any data transmitted for AI processing uses end-to-end encryption and is deleted immediately after processing.

Your Control

You can always:

  • • Delete all your mood entries and data at any time
  • • Export your data in plain text format
  • • AI reflections are securely generated in the cloud
  • • Your mood data is anonymized before it’s processed
  • • Works without internet for logging, requires connection for AI insights

Third-Party Services

AI Processing & Privacy

When AI reflections are enabled, we may use AI services to process your data securely. Only anonymized mood summaries are sent to our AI providers.

  • Your mood entries are first anonymized locally. Only the anonymized summaries are sent to our AI providers.
  • AI services are used to generate reflections and insights. We use their API under strict no-training, no-storage agreements.
  • AI providers comply with major privacy standards including SOC 2, GDPR, and ISO 27001.
  • While analytics help us improve your app experience, we do not store raw mood data or personal identifiers with our AI partners.

Your data remains under your control. You can delete all mood entries anytime or export them in plain text format.

Analytics

We use privacy-focused analytics to understand app usage patterns and improve the experience. No personal content or identifiable information is included.

Data Retention

  • • Your mood entries: Stored locally on your device until you delete them
  • • AI processing data: Deleted immediately after generating your reflection
  • • Analytics data: Anonymized and retained for up to 2 years for app improvement
  • • Crash reports: Automatically deleted after 90 days

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, but given our privacy-first architecture:

  • • We have no access to your mood entries or personal reflections
  • • We cannot provide what we do not collect or store
  • • Any legal requests would be limited to basic usage analytics only
